He had always found her intriguing. Irritable, loud-mouthed, over-confident, and fun to annoy, yes. But, she was intriguing nonetheless. No matter how many times she was knocked down she always got right back up and put on a grin for the world. She was strong, not only her physical aspects but in her mentality. She didn't let things bother her for long (most of the time), and she most certainly did not back down from a challenge.

Perhaps that was why he enjoyed teasing her. He took pride in the fact he was one of the few who could get under her skin. The others? Sadik Adnan and Gilbert Beilschmidt. Though Gilbert had known her since the two were in preschool, so annoying her was easy for him (though often painful). Sadik on the other hand was much stronger than her, and he was quite the flirt on top of that. Elizabeta did not take well to that sort of thing.

And yet she had dated Roderich for quite a while. Almost a year if his memory served correctly. Though, Vasilica did not find her as interesting when she was fawning over the aristocrat. She was much more fun to hate on when she acted as the strong independent woman he knew her as.

Hate... They had used that word quite often when speaking of the other. Yet recently he had grown hesitant in using it. Though he was far from liking Elizabeta, he respected her. He respected her quite a bit actually and he often had the odd feeling that she respected him too, even as she pounded his face in with her frying pan.

Perhaps it was time that one of them made an effort....

Nah.

--

Perhaps this wasn't the best idea after all.

Elizabeta, normally miss "I can handle myself", was feeling quite nervous as she walked down the sidewalk alone with the moonlight shining down on her. She silently cursed herself for not taking Gilbert up on his offer to walk her home. Damn her independent nature.

Nearby was a two story building with a single light turned on in a room on the second floor. A boy stood out on the balcony, leaning against the railing and staring out at the stars. Vasilica Lupei enjoyed the serenity of the evening sky and stars twinkling in the otherwise black abyss. His red-eyed gaze drifted down to the street below and his eye was caught by a curious sight. Long wavy brown hair... "Is that Elizabeta?" His brows furrowed together and his lips curled into a frown. Was she really stupid enough to walk around alone at night?

Clearly she was.

With an agitated groan he pulled on his boots and headed downstairs to catch up with her. It took him a bit of a jog but in time he was standing just behind her. "Are you really this stupid, Elizabeta?"

She jumped in surprise, whipping around, ready to punch anything that might be a threat. But once she realized it was him her surprised expression melted away. "Oh, it's just you." There was a mix of relief and agitation in her voice as she spoke. "What are you doing out here?"

"I should be asking you the same, except I'll revise it. What are you doing out here alone?"

Emerald eyes darted away and her expression turned huffy. "I can handle myself, Vasilica."
Although he'd feel bad for the man that trifled with Elizabeta, he had to stay with her. "I know that. However you are still a woman-"

"What does that have to do with anything!?" She cut in. She hated when people told her she could or could not do what she wanted simply because 'she was a woman'. Not that he blamed her, but still...

"If you would let me finish. You are a woman, and even though you are the strongest woman I know, you still should not walk by yourself at night of all times. There are people who are stronger and would not hesitate to gang up on you. Therefore I will escort you home."
She snorted in clear contempt, really wishing she had taken Gilbert's offer right about now. However, she did not protest further. Instead she turned and continued walking. Since she did not show any signs of resistance, Vasilica followed her with a creepy grin on his face - his signature grin.

The pair walked in silence. Thankfully it wasn't uncomfortable...just weird. Well why wouldn't it be weird? Imagine if someone you absolutely despised (though not really) offered to walk you home. You'd be pretty confused too. Now and again emerald orbs darted in the direction of the male walking beside her.

He never looked at her. He just wore a smile on his lips with one of his extra long canines poking out over his lip. "You know, in this lighting he almost looks-Snap out of it Liz! You were not about to finish that thought!" Her eyes snapped back to the sidewalk ahead of them. As if this night could get any better, a fat droplet of rain plunked itself on her head. Her eyes floated upwards and her nose was greeted with another droplet of rain.

And then it began raining....heavier....and heavier. Before Eli knew what was going on something heavily and dark was draped over her head. She pushed the fabric out of her eyes with the back of her hand, turning to look at Vasilica. He had taken off his long jacket and was now standing in the rain with his long-sleeved Harry Potter shirt. His bangs clung to his face as they soaked with the rain water.

"What did you do that for? Now you're going to get sick-"

"I don't get sick." It was true. He had never once been sick in his lifetime. He was blessed with perfect health somehow. Lucky bastard. "You on the other hand would get sick if you didn't have something to shield yourself from the rain."

He raised a good point, and she adjusted the coat so it fit more comfortably on her head.

--

the rest of the way, they walked in near silence aside from the occasional bickering over something trivial. They had calmed down quite a bit since they first met each other. Well....since they met for the second time in their lives (only now as teenagers). They used to bite each other's heads off and Eli often hit him more.

Now they tolerated each other's presence, more so than they cared to admit. And though everyone else was accustomed to their random outbursts and fights, Elizabeta couldn't help but feel more...comfortable this way. Screaming, getting upset, fighting....that took a lot of energy. It just didn't seem worth it (though Vasilica still seemed bent on getting on her nerves as much as possible without receiving a black eye).

The two finally arrived at Elizabeta's house, and she began rummaging through her bag, looking for her key. Vasilica, seeming content with leaving her at the door, decided to just that. So, without further ado, he turned on his heel and began walking away. Elizabeta noticed out of the corner of her eye.

"Vasilica wait-!" Had she really just said that?

He stopped dead in his tracks, turning his head slowly. His face was questioning but there was a smirk on his lips. "Hm~?"

"....Thank you." She forced out. The smirk on his lips grew smug. God did that infuriate her.

"Think nothing of it~" And then he began to walk away again. Only this time, Elizabeta caught his wrist, forcing him to stay.

What on earth was she doing? She wasn't sure. But she just got this sudden urge to do something that was probably incredibly stupid as he turned to face her once again. Without much warning, or hesitancy for that matter, she grabbed his face between her hands and pulled him down into a sloppy kiss. Sloppy because she had never really kissed much, he was caught off guard, and also the fangs...

Bewilderment registered on his face as his eyes grew ten times their normal size. Yet, he began to close his eyes and entangle his fingers in her long hair. This was so wrong...but it felt right. His arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her closer and he adjusted his lips to match hers, so their kiss wouldn't be as sloppy. Her hands moved from his face until her arms slinked around his neck, holding him there as if he would leave if she let go for even a second.

The rain still fell, but neither of them noticed. They were quite content, even if they were soaked from head to toe. They broke once when they finally needed to come up for air.
"....You have said you enjoy the element of surprise."

It took him a moment, "...Only when I'm the one doing the surprises~" His lips spread into a grin, "Though I must admit your little surprise was....pleasant."

"Really now? Well then, for being such a good boy tonight I believe you deserve a reward."

"A reward you say?" You could practically see his red eyes gleam.

Elizabeta formed a smirk of her own as she once again closed the gap between them. Life could wait.
Yeah....I've been really into this pair lately. They're just so.....they just work in a really weird and fighting sort of way.
Bah, this is short, but I was running out of ideas and didn't know what else to write.

Bahaha, look Mel. Eli is the one doing the surprising this time around. BD

um...yeah.

AMAZING story! I am very new to the Romania x Hungary fandom, and this story made me ship it 100%!

And you're totally right! It would work out, in a weird fighting-sorta way.
